Earlier today, following the church service, our St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of the Desert community gathered for a meaningful and moving screening of “Endless Exile,” a powerful documentary by Armenian-American filmmaker Mano Baghjajian. This special event was graciously hosted by the Parish Council members of St. Garabed Church of the Desert, whose dedication made this important gathering possible.

Mano, a Los Angeles native, is a journalist and storyteller who earned his graduate degree from New York University’s prestigious News and Documentary program. “Endless Exile,” originally developed as his thesis project, has now become his debut award-winning documentary short film. He currently serves as the Digital Ministry Producer at the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America.

Two Armenian women on opposite sides of the world tell their family stories to bring to light the past and present persecution of the Armenian people. “Endless Exile” tells the story of the persecution of the Armenian people over 100 years through two tragic and strikingly parallel family stories. Araxie Tcharfajian, the filmmaker's grandmother, tells her mother's story of surviving the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and how its legacy has affected her life and the lives of Armenians across the globe. Lilit Hakopyan, a refugee from Artsakh now living in Yerevan, recounts her personal story of abandoning her home to protect her infant child during the 2020 Artsakh war, and how the blockade of her homeland has left her immediate family divided. This powerful documentary, honoring the memory of the 44-Day War and the desecration of Artsakh, touched the hearts of all who attended. It was more than a film—it was a moment of remembrance, reflection, and unity for our people. Together, we remembered our fallen heroes, prayed for our displaced families, and renewed our commitment to keep the truth about Artsakh alive for future generations.

We thank everyone who joined us today, and we congratulate Mano Baghjajian on this important and acclaimed film, recognized at multiple festivals and honored with the “Kirk Kerkorian Armenian in Film Award.”

“Disciple’s Mission”- Lecture Series Pilgrimage to St. Garabed Armenian Church of the Desert in Rancho Mirage

On Sunday, March 22, the “Disciple’s Mission” of the Western Diocese, under the leadership of Mr. Hayk Madoyan, organized a pilgrimage of thirty-five participants to St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of Rancho Mirage, where they participated in the Divine Liturgy of the Sunday of the Advent.

 The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the Very Reverend Fr. Gevorg Hayrapetyan, a member of the Brotherhood of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Superintendent of the Jarankavorats and Entzayaran Schools, and a visiting clergyman in the Western Diocese. Despite his scheduled return the following day to the St. James Monastery in Jerusalem—currently facing difficult circumstances due to ongoing military conflicts—Fr. Gevorg graciously accepted the invitation to celebrate the Divine Liturgy at St. Garabed Church.

 The pilgrims were warmly received by the spiritual pastor of St. Garabed Church, the Reverend Deacon Gevork Gevorkian, who, together with the Parish Council and members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, had prepared a gracious and heartfelt reception.

 At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant delivered a brief message for the day. This was followed, according to the program, by a bilingual lecture by Mr. Hayk Madoyan, titled “The Expectation of the Second Coming of Christ in the Life of the Christian.”

The lecture was followed by a fellowship meal, during which the pilgrims had the opportunity to engage with members of the local community in a warm and friendly atmosphere. They expressed their sincere appreciation to Deacon Gevork, Parish Council, the choir, and the Ladies’ Auxiliary body for their generous hospitality. The first portion of the pilgrimage concluded with a commemorative group photograph.

 Following their visit to St. Garabed Church, the pilgrims proceeded to the well-known Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which carried them to an elevation of 8,500 feet. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, participants experienced the presence of the Lord in a profound and unique way, recalling the words of the Psalmist: “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 18 (19):1).

With joyful and grateful hearts, the children of the Armenian Arakelyan School of St. Garabed Church, together with their loving parents and their devoted teacher, Hermone Mnatsakanyan, beautifully decorated the Christmas tree. 🎄 This blessed moment reflects the faith, unity, and love that bind our church family together. May the radiant light of Christ’s Holy Nativity dwell in their hearts, bless their homes, strengthen our community, and shine upon us all—today and always. ✨

Մեր ժողովուրդի զաւակներուն ազնիւ ուշադրութեան կը յանձնենք անցնող տարուայ ընթացքին Անապատի Հայաստանեայց Առաքելական Սուրբ Կարապետ Եկեղեցւոյ կարեւոր իրագործումներուն ամփոփ զեկոյցը:

2023 տարուայ մեծագոյն յաջողութիւնը եղաւ Անապատի Սուրբ Կարապետ Եկեղեցւոյ Շաբաթօրեայ եւ Կիրակնօրեայ դպրոցներուն հաստատումը: Երկու կառոյցներուն բացումը  շրջանէն ներս մեծապէս խթանեցին կապը եկեղեցւոյ եւ ծնողներուն միջեւ, զարկ տուին  հոգեւոր ու հայեցի կրթութեան զարգացման եւ փոխադարձ վստահութեան: Այս առաքելութեան լծուած են նուիրեալ եւ պարտաճանաչ ուսուցիչներ, որոնք անհրաժեշտ գիտելիքներ կը փոխանցեն օր ըստ օրէ աճող մեր աշակերտութեան: Մեծ ուրախութիւն ու գոհունակութիւն է տեսնել համայնքը համախմբուած եկեղեցւոյ, մեր հոգեւոր ու հայկական աւանդութիւններուն շուրջ: Կիրակնօրեայ եկեղեցական արարողութիւնները կը կատարուի բծախնդրութեամբ եւ եկեղեցի այցելողներու թիւը զգալի աճ կ՛արձանագրէ: Ուրախութեամբ կ՛արձանագրենք, թէ հեռաւոր շրջաններէ հայեր եւս կը միանան եկեղեցական արարողութիւններուն եւ Անապատի Եկեղեցին առաւել եւս կեանք կ՛առնէ իր հաւատացեալներով: Սուրբ Կարապետ Եկեղեցւոյ մասին նաեւ հետաքրքրուած են տեղացի ոչ հայեր, որոնք զանազան առիթներով կ՛այցելեն եկեղեցի եւ մեր հաւատացեալներուն հետ կը հետեւին մեր արարողութիւններուն:

Արեւմտեան Թեմի Թեմակալ Առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Տէր Յովնան Արք. Տէրտէրեանի տնօրինութեամբ Բարեշնորհ Գէորգ Սրկ. Գէորգեան կը կատարէ իրեն վստահուած պարտականութիւնները, թէ՛ եկեղեցիէն ներս, հսկելով եկեղեցական արարողութիւններու կատարման եւ թէ՛ եկեղեցիէն դուրս՝ հովուական ծառայութեամբ: Գէորգ Սարկաւագ տարբեր առիթներով  կ՛այցելէ իրեն խնամքին վստահուած ծխայիններուն տուները եւ հիւանդանոցներ: Ան օգտագործելով համացանցը առաւելագոյն չափով կը փորձէ հասնիլ եւ շփման մէջ մտնել բոլորին հետ: Ան Սուրբ Կարապետ եկեղեցւոյ պաշտօնական կայքէջին նախագիծը պատրաստեց, որ մեծ արձագանգ գտաւ մեծ թիւով այցելուներու կողմէ:

Անցնող տարուայ ընթացքին համագործակցելով ծխական խորհուրդին հետ Գէորգ Սարկաւագի ջանքերով զարկ տրուեցան հովուական առաջնորդութեան, հոգեւոր ու աղօթական կեանքին, հանդիպելով թէ՛ զոյգերու, խումբերու կամ անհատներու հետ: Սարկաւագը ճգնաժամերու, վիշտի եւ կամ սուգի ժամանակ ներկայ է եղած համայնքի զաւակներուն կողքին, զանոնք մխիթարած, խրախուսած եւ հոգեւոր աջակցութիւն մատակարարած անոնց: Անցնող տարուայ ընթացքին զանազան առիթներով Սրբազան հօր յատուկ կարգադրութեամբ այցելու հոգեւորականներ պատարագեցին Սուրբ Կարապետ Եկեղեցւոյ մէջ: Հոգեւոր հրատարակութիւններու ծիրէն ներս, տեղին է նշել, թէ տարբեր գրքոյկներ լոյս տեսան Հայաստանի մէջ եւ օգտագործուեցան հոգեւոր ու կրթական կառոյցներուն եւ ծխայիններուն կողմէ:

Ուրախութեամբ կը յայտնենք, թէ Սրբազան հօր տնօրինութեամբ Գէորգ Սարկաւագ Գէորգեան պիտի շարունակէ իր ծառայութիւնը մատուցանել շրջանէն ներս ի խնդիր համայնքի հոգեւոր աճին եւ զարգացման:
